Earth Day, Sunday, April 22, is the perfect opportunity for reflecting on the importance of caring for our earth. For the month of April, Luke Center for Public Service invites the Punahou community to celebrate and deepen a shared responsibility for our planet.
There are many environment-focused opportunities for the Punahou community to get involved in during “Sustainable April.”
Five Percent Energy Reduction Challenge
The challenge for the month of April 2018 is for Punahou to reduce its campus-wide energy usage by 5 percent as compared to April 2017. Individual behavioral changes in classrooms and office spaces – such as turning off half as many lights as you would normally use – can make a big difference in energy reduction. Can we do it? Check back at the end of the month to find out.
Sustainability Fair
Students have planned and coordinated a fun, educational campus-wide Sustainability Fair with exhibits, local healthy food and creative recycled art activities for students and faculty to enjoy April 6 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Rice Field.
Plastic Free Hawai’i Workshop
Led by Kokua Hawai’i Foundation Plastic Free Hawai’i, this workshop is open to Punahou students, faculty, staff and parents on Saturday, April 7, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Attendees will learn about plastic pollution and the local waste stream, and explore solutions and alternatives to plastic use that could be employed on campus and at home. Register by April 6.
The campus community today is a living expression of the School’s pursuit of educating for a sustainable future, which is one of the Aims of a Punahou Education.
